Issue Tracker - UK House of Commons

about this chart

This chart shows the prevalence of policy categories in Oral Answers to Questions (OATQs) in the UK House of Commons. OATQ constitutes the bulk of Commons debate, where ministers respond to questions from backbench MPs on matters of government policy and current issues affecting politics. The data is collected from Hansard, the official record of parliamentary proceedings, and is updated daily. The chart displays the estimated monthly time spent debating each policy area. The chart is designed to provide policy analysts with the data to approximate which areas of policy are most salient for legislators at any given time. More nuanced data on specific policy debates, and their day-to-day fluctuations, are available on request. To learn more about our methodology and how categories are defined, click here.
